NOCEN CELEBRATES MAIDEN WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY IN GRAND STYLE

The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), NOCEN Chapter, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, successfully hosted the maiden edition of the World Teachers’ Day celebration at the College Arena, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN).

The historic event, themed “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” brought together staff, students, and distinguished guests to honour the noble teaching profession and reaffirm the importance of collaboration in educational excellence.

The Provost of the College, Dr Justina Anyadiegwu, in her official address, warmly welcomed all guests and congratulated COEASU NOCEN Chapter for initiating this historic celebration. She described the theme as “timely and thought-provoking”, stressing that “it speaks directly to the heart of our mission as a College of Education”. Dr Anyadiegwu went on to say that in NOCEN, “we are not just teachers; we are the teachers of teachers – the architects who design the blueprint, the master builders who lay the foundation, and the mentors who shape the minds that will, in turn, shape the future of our nation.” She commended the commitment and sacrifices of teaching staff whom she described thus: “you are the unsung heroes who, day after day, shape the destiny of others – often without applause, but always with impact.”

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Anambra State, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, ably represented by Mrs Onyeneka Ifeoma, applauded the College and COEASU for the initiative and reaffirmed the Soludo administration’s resolve to reposition the teaching profession.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Fab Ukozor, who spoke extensively on the need to reposition teaching profession, involving mentors, peers, students, parents, and the larger society.

The day was filled with exciting activities, including: a spectacular march-past and salute by contingents from the six Schools:
School of Languages
School of Sciences
School of Vocational Education
School of Arts and Social Sciences
School of Early Childhood & Primary Education
School of General Education

Beautiful cultural dance performances by students
Exhibition of creative works and innovations by various schools and departments
Presentation of awards and recognition to deserving staff and students for outstanding contributions to the College community

The Chairman of COEASU NOCEN, Comrade Nwabunze in his welcome address, thanked the College management, the Commissioner for Education, and all participants for their support, describing the event as a new tradition that will be sustained annually.

The Organising Committee Chairman, Dr Chinwe Nebolisa, expressed profound gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the maiden edition and promised an even bigger celebration in 2026.

Indeed, it was a day of pride, unity, and renewed commitment to the teaching profession at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
