NOCEN INTER-SCHOOL & DIRECTORATE FOOTBALL GRAND FINALS

The College Main Field came alive like a mini Allianz Arena of Munich as Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe hosted the grand finale of its 2025 Staff Football Competition in a thrilling double-header on Wednesday, 12th November 2025.

In the female team fixture scheduled for 11:00 AM, Team School of Education (Purple) squared up against Team ECCE & Vocational & Technical Education (Orange) in a fiercely contested encounter which ended in a stalemate after full time whistle and consequently penalties. Nerves of steel prevailed as School of Education clinched a 3-2 victory in the shootout.

In another development, the male team final fixture commenced immediately after, with Team Provost’s Office (Purple) digging it out with Team School of Vocational & Technical Education (Orange). It was a real contest. Nerves were tested on many occasions with understandable boil-overs.Team School of Vocational & Technical Education first took the lead from a dead ball chance after the referee awarded a controversial free kick in the second half. Team Provost’s Office found the leveller from the spotkick few minutes later after the referee adjudged an opposition player to have handled the ball right inside the box. With the two teams on level terms after normal time, the play progressed to extra time before a late strike from the spot sealed a hard-fought 2-1 win for Vocational & Technical Education.

In her inspiring address, the Provost declared:
“This competition has been more than a contest of goals and trophies. It has been a celebration of teamwork, discipline, wellness, and friendship; values that reflect the very heart of NOCEN.”

Truly through this competition, NOCEN won, in health, unity, and unbreakable spirit.

The awards ceremony honoured every team and outstanding players with applause, medals, and prizes.

Highlight of the award ceremony was when an honorary medal was given to the Provost by the Sports Committee Chairman in recognition of her visionary leadership in organising the competition.
