22 DEAD DOZENS INJURED AS A SCHOOL BUILDING COLLAPSED IN PLATEAU STATE
On Friday morning, a school in north-central Nigeria collapsed during morning sessions, trapping roughly 154 children and igniting a chaotic hunt for any still alive among the debris. 22 people died, according to the authorities.
Shortly after pupils, many of whom were 15 years old or younger, arrived for classes, the two-story Saints Academy college in the Plateau state hamlet of Busa Buji collapsed.
Later, according to Plateau police spokesperson Alfred Alabo, 132 of the pupils had been saved and were receiving medical attention in different hospitals for their wounds. At least 12 individuals were reportedly murdered, according to a previous local media source.
According to Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, security personnel, medical personnel, and rescue teams were sent to the site as soon as the structure collapsed to begin looking for the trapped kids.
Plateau’s commissioner for information, Musa Ashoms, released a statement saying, “The government has instructed hospitals to prioritise treatment without documentation or payment to ensure prompt medical attention.” The “weak structure and location near a riverbank” of the school were cited by the state administration as the cause of the catastrophe.
It recommended that schools with comparable problems close.
While excavators searched through the rubble, dozens of residents gathered near the school, some sobbing and others offering assistance.
While others were holding her back, one woman could be seen sobbing and trying to approach the debris.
