NOCEN Provost Sets New Leadership Agenda, Demands Accountability, Innovation, and Integrity
The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Engr. Prof. Victor I. O. Ndirika, FNIAE, has challenged the newly appointed leadership team of the College to translate the administration’s vision and mandate into concrete results through effective leadership, teamwork, innovation, accountability, and integrity.
He gave the charge on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the College Multi-Purpose Auditorium, Nsugbe, during a retreat organised for newly appointed Principal Officers, Chairmen of Committees, Heads of Departments, Directors of Programmes, and Coordinators.
In his address, the Provost described the participants as key ambassadors of the College, stressing that their appointments were responsibilities to serve rather than mere positions of authority. He urged them to align their activities with the administration’s vision and mandate while taking full ownership of the challenges within their respective areas.
Prof. Ndirika placed strong emphasis on teamwork and effective communication. He encouraged the leaders to hold regular meetings with their staff and foster an environment where challenges can be identified, discussed, and resolved promptly.
He reminded participants that students remain at the heart of the College’s existence. Teaching, research, and all institutional activities, he stressed, must ultimately improve students’ academic experience, welfare, and overall development.
The Provost also challenged the leaders to become more proactive in revenue generation by developing legitimate and sustainable initiatives that can support their departments and strengthen the College’s financial base. He encouraged them to explore research grants, strategic partnerships, donor funding, and other legitimate opportunities capable of attracting additional resources.
While promoting innovation and resource mobilisation, Prof. Ndirika reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption. He charged the leaders to protect institutional resources and uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and transparency.
He further urged continuous professional development, drawing from his own career to illustrate how research, lifelong learning, professional networking, and institutional collaboration can create opportunities for both individuals and the College.
Effective leadership, the Provost noted, requires the ability to inspire people, solve problems, and deliver measurable results. He urged the newly appointed leaders to view their appointments as opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the growth and transformation of NOCEN.
In her vote of thanks, the Acting College Librarian, Dr. Chika Chinemerem, appreciated the Provost for organising the retreat and for providing clear leadership direction. She described the event as timely and impactful, noting that the expectations communicated would help participants better understand their responsibilities and contribute more effectively to the College’s vision.
Dr. Chinemerem expressed the participants’ commitment to working collectively with the administration. She assured the Provost that the new leadership team would embrace accountability, innovation, teamwork, and integrity in the discharge of their duties. She also commended the administration for creating an avenue for leaders to interact, reflect, and gain a clearer understanding of their roles.
The retreat ended with a renewed commitment by participants to work collaboratively towards achieving the administration’s strategic objectives and advancing Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, to greater heights.
