*NOCEN SUG Aspirants Present Manifestos as Electoral Committee Unveils E-Voting Process and Announces New Election Date*
Nsugbe, Anambra State – Aspirants contesting various positions in the 2026 Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), on Thursday presented their manifestos before students at the College Multipurpose Hall.
The manifesto presentation provided candidates with the opportunity to outline their vision, programmes, and plans for improving student welfare and strengthening the Students’ Union if elected.
Following the presentations, the Chairman of the NOCEN SUG Electoral Committee, *Law Egbomuche–Okeke, Esq., Ph.D.*, invited representatives of the company engaged by the Electoral Committee to manage the electronic voting (e-voting) system to educate students on the electronic voting process.
During the presentation, the company’s representatives explained that the e-voting system was designed to guarantee a free, fair, transparent, and credible election. They informed students that all eligible voters would receive a secure link through their registered email addresses, directing them to the voting platform where they would create confidential passwords to access their individual voting accounts. Students were advised never to share their passwords with anyone.
The representatives further demonstrated how the voting platform works, explaining that it contains both written instructions and a video tutorial to guide users through the voting process. After logging in, voters will be able to access the ballot, cast one vote for each elective position, and submit their votes. They emphasized that once a vote is cast, it cannot be changed. The platform will also display election results in real time, enabling students to monitor the process transparently from any location.
During the interactive session, students expressed concerns about those who could not access their registered email accounts. Responding to the questions, the company explained that email was adopted instead of SMS because it provides greater privacy and security. Students were therefore advised to recover or gain access to their registered email addresses before the election.
In his closing remarks, *Law Egbomuche–Okeke, Esq., Ph.D.* announced that the SUG election would not hold as previously expected but had been rescheduled to Thursday, 9th July 2026. He explained that the adjustment would enable the Electoral Committee to address identified issues and ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner.
The Chairman encouraged all aspirants to continue their campaigns while strictly complying with the Electoral Committee’s guidelines and code of conduct. He urged candidates to conduct issue-based campaigns, maintain decorum, and ensure that their supporters remained peaceful throughout the campaign period. He also appealed to students to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, and continue supporting the Electoral Committee in its commitment to delivering a credible election.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Ebozue Chibuike Victor, who expressed profound appreciation to the College Management, the Chairman and members of the Electoral Committee, the e-voting service provider, all aspirants, students, and stakeholders for their active participation and commitment to a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process. He urged students to remain orderly, continue supporting the Electoral Committee, and actively participate in the rescheduled election.
