NOCEN Holds Teaching Practice Supervisors’ Workshop to Enhance Quality Teacher Preparation

Nsugbe, Anambra State – Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), has successfully organized a Teaching Practice Supervisors’ Workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of lecturers and supervisors for the 2026 Teaching Practice Exercise.

The workshop, which attracted members of the College Management, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, lecturers, teaching practice supervisors, and resource persons, focused on improving the quality of supervision and preparing student teachers for effective classroom practice.

Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Provost, *Engr. Prof. Victor I.O. Ndirika, FNIAE, the Dean of Deans, Dr. Ifeoma C. Orakwue,* emphasized that teaching practice remains a vital component of teacher education. She noted that the exercise provides student teachers with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real classroom situations while developing essential professional competencies, including lesson planning, classroom management, communication, learner assessment, and professional ethics.

Dr. Orakwue charged teaching practice supervisors to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, fairness, and professionalism, while providing constructive feedback that will help student teachers become competent and effective educators.

The workshop featured insightful presentations by distinguished resource persons. Dr. Chinyere Nwaka delivered a lecture on “Critical Analysis of the Teaching Practice Evaluation Instrument with Special Emphasis on Clinical Supervision,” where she explained the proper use of the NCCE Teaching Practice Assessment Instrument and highlighted the importance of clinical supervision and post-observation conferences.

The second presentation, delivered by *Mr. Ibeto Michael,* focused on “Relevant Teaching Skills as Instruments for Effective Teaching Practice.” He stressed the importance of effective lesson planning, classroom management, appropriate teaching methods, and the formulation of measurable instructional objectives.

The final presentation was delivered by *Dr. Amaechi Makasi* on “Cooperating Schools as Co-Educators: Analysing Expectations for Successful Teaching Practice.” He highlighted the importance of collaboration among the College, cooperating schools, supervising lecturers, mentor teachers, and student teachers in ensuring a successful teaching practice exercise.

The workshop also featured interactive sessions during which participants asked questions, experiences, and received practical guidance from the resource persons on issues relating to supervision, assessment, and professional conduct.

Participants described the workshop as timely, informative, and impactful, expressing confidence that the knowledge gained would improve the quality of teaching practice supervision and contribute to the production of competent, reflective, and professionally responsible teachers.

The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment by participants to uphold professionalism and excellence in supervising student teachers during the forthcoming Teaching Practice Exercise.
