Prof. Victor Ifeanyichukwu Obiora Ndirika is a Professor of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering in the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria, until his recent appointment as Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe(NOCEN) on 27th April, 2026 by His Excellency, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the Executive Governor of Anambra State. Professor Ndirika hails from Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. Born in the Kano City, Kano State, Nigeria.
He obtained Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech., Hons) Degree in Agricultural Engineering and Mechanization from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria(1988), National Youth Service at the Katsina State Ministry of Agriculture (1989), Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degrees in Agricultural Engineering in 1993 and 1997 respectively from Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), Zaria, Nigeria. Professor Ndirika rose through due academic process from the rank of Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Research Fellow (1991) to a Professor of Agricultural Engineering and Research in 2006 at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and later transferred his service from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike in 2009 and Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 2025. He attended a three-month training program, organized and sponsored by the National Agricultural Research/ World Bank Project in 1998 at the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, University of Pretoria, South Africa where he obtained a certificate in Food Engineering Research (FER).
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and member, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (MASABE) and former member, Governing Council of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Nigeria. He is a Teacher/ Researcher/Administrator and mentor to many students and academic staff in the field of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering and their converging fields both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects.
He was formerly the Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, member of Senate and Coordinator of postgraduate programs at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Also, he was formerly the Research Programme Leader for Engineering and Information Technology Research Program and the Dean, College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, the Director of Linkage Programme, Environmental Research and Development (LIPERD) Unit of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He has served as Chairman of many committees in Ahmadu Bello University, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria.
Prof. Ndirika was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Technological Innovation, Faculty of Engineering, University of Pretoria, South Africa. He was one of the distinguished scholars that were selected and sponsored by the World Bank and the African Centre of Technology Studies, Nairobi to develop a research work plan for Agricultural Science and Technology for the Sub-Saharan Africa. His contribution was on Biomass Energy. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Unizik Journal of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, a reviewer and member of the editorial board for many reputable Journals of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He has served as a Consultant and Resource person to some National and International Institutions and Organizations. He was a Visiting Professor to the University of Boras, Sweden and many other universities both home and abroad.
Prof. Ndirika’s area of specialization and research interest is on Bioprocessing and Storage Engineering, Bioenergy, Agricultural Machine Design and Modeling of Post-harvest Systems. Prof. Ndirika has notable innovative Designs and development of Processing and Storage Machines. A prolific writer with over 100 published articles in reputable peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings and books. He is the author of the books titled “Design Principles for Postharvest Machines” and “Modeling and Simulation of Agricultural and Biological Systems” which were Supported and published by the Tertiary Educational Trust Fund (Tetfund) in 2019 and 2025 respectively.
He is an external examiner to the African Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Energy and Power for Development (ACE-SEPD), a world bank assisted Centre, University of Nigeria Nsukka to mention a few and many others in Nigerian Universities. He has been a resource person/chairman to the National University Commission (NUC) and Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in the accreditation of Agricultural Engineering programs in some of the Nigerian Universities. Prof. Ndirika has earned several awards/scholarships and research grants nationally and internationally.
He is happily married to Professor (Mrs) Maryann Chinwe Ndirika and blessed with four Children.
