ENUGU BOOSTS FOREST GUARD PAY TO 80,000 MINIMUM

Enugu State has taken a major step to strengthen its fight against deforestation and insecurity by raising the monthly pay of forest guards to 80,000 minimum.

Governor Peter Mbah, while unveiling the new face of the Forest Guard service, said the adjustment is part of his administration’s drive to improve workers’ welfare and protect the state’s natural resources.

Unlike in the past, recruitment into the guard unit is now community-based and transparent, with town hall meetings across Nsukka, Agbani, and Awgu ensuring that only credible and trusted hands are selected.

The new wage is not just about salaries—it’s also about motivation. Forest guards will now work under better conditions, receive more training, and be equipped to tackle illegal logging and safeguard rural communities.

Residents and labour leaders have welcomed the development, describing it as a practical step that shows the government’s commitment to both security and environmental preservation.

With this move, Enugu has positioned itself as one of the few states boldly matching policy promises with action, setting a new standard for worker welfare and sustainable development.
