NIGERIA CELEBRATES SIMON EKPA’S CONVICTION IN FINLAND
Nigeria has hailed the conviction of separatist agitator Simon Ekpa in Finland, calling it a decisive win against terrorism and extremism.
The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, on September 1, 2025, sentenced Ekpa to six years in prison after finding him guilty of inciting violence, aiding armed groups, and fueling unrest in Nigeria’s Southeast through his online campaigns.
The Minister of Information described the ruling as “a long-awaited victory for justice,” while the Chief of Defence Staff and Attorney-General commended Finland for taking a bold stand against cross-border threats.
Legal associations in Nigeria have also urged local judges to take a cue from Finland’s firmness, stressing that decisive judgments are critical in curbing violent extremism at home.
For many Nigerians, the ruling signals hope that those who sponsor chaos from abroad can no longer escape accountability.
