HISTORY OF ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH AMAKWA OZUBULU
It has to be recalled that Christianity was introduced in Ozubulu Community by the then Obi of Egbema, Chief Edward Nnubia Anadu, who got converted in Obosi in friend’s house) on his way to Agueri to see a “diviner” over some strange occurrences in his domain. When he brought the missionaries to Ozubulu he promptly introduced them to Obi of Ozubulu, Chief Ezeifeukwu Oruche 1 of Amakwa. That same year, 1904, a church was established in front of the Obi’s palace by Enekebe (Ugonano of Obosi) Among the earliest convert to this first Church were Messers Jacob Ekwulundu and Isreal Ekwulundu. Regrettably, this first church at Amakwa could not survive because of certain misfortunes and misconceptions. The cleared heathen sacred bushes and eating of totem animals like: the Ogwui reptile and fish, from the sacred Ogwui stream by the pioneer converts inadvertently angered the community. Consequently, both adults and children started to defecate in the little Church building which adversely affected the young church.
In 1908, with the arrival of a rival mission, the Roman Catholic Mission, many converts then switched over to RCM. Thereafter, the CMS Church at Amakwa folded up while the residue faithful converts returned to St. Matthew’s Church at “Kalamimi” Egbema. Among these faithful steadfast converts were Madam Zipporah Nwosu with her two sons: John Nwachukwu and Benjamin Chukwukadibia, Ejefebihi Nwosu, and Daniel Maduka. Jeremiah Orjia, a retired Church teacher use to organize and maintain regular evening Sunday school services there for Amakwa people; he kept the church alive until the collapse of the little Church building.

This building collapsed after some years and the adherents move into Onukwulu Onwu home (Holy Innocent Chapel) in Ven Dr. BCE Nwosu (of blessed memory) compound. The resounding rebirth of All Saints’ Ang. Church Amakwa Ozubulu came in the walls of Ven Dr. BCE Nwosu declaration on 27th December, 1955 at the OPS general meeting held at St. Matthew’s Church Egbema, that St. Matthew’s Ang. Church Egbema Ozubulu should be decentralized; each quarter should go home and establish its own Anglican Church. Amakwa quarter then returned to All Saints’ Amakwa to start All Saints’ Church Amakwa Ozubulu..
On January 1956,All Saints’ Anglican Church Amakwa Ozubulu was officially born again under the visionary leadership of Ven Dr. BCE Nwosu with clear and purposeful goal. Immediately, he successfully procured some plots of land from members of his kindred. The policy of “do as you can” was adopted to build the first Church and school block.
The first Church teacher was Mr. Christopher Okafor (Now Rev.) from Umuonulu, while the first school teacher was Mr. Joel Odunukwe from Nnewichi Nnewi who was transferred after five months. He was replaced by Mr. F.U Nwakile who was a member of the Church and an indigene of Amakwa. He worked tirelessly and the population of the school increased immensely as children from nook and crannies of Amakwa rushed in Between 1959 and 1961, All Saints’ Church Amakwa choir under the leadership of Mr. F.U Nwakile represented Ozubulu district at Onitsha Archdeaconry singing competition and took the 4th position in the 1960 edition. During the civil war, the population of the Church increased tremendously because of the influx of refugees and All Saints’ Church Amakwa Ozubulu being the Refugee Camp.

FIRST DISTRICT PARISH STATUS
In 1969, as the Church grew in strength and size, the members applied for a District Parish status. On January 2, 1970, the new District of All Saints’ Church Amakwa Ozubulu was inaugurated by Late Rt. Rev. L.M Uzodike, the then Diocesan Bishop on the Niger. The late Rev P.D Onwuzulu was appointed the first superintendent.
On 26th December, 1970 the foundation stone of the present Church building was laid but Rt. Rev. L.M. Uzodike for All Saints’ Church; who from their labours rest.
On 27th January 1973, the foundation stone of the vicarage was laid by Ven. Dr. B.C.E Nwosu. All Saints District Amakwa Ozubulu continued till1974 when it became unviable as the refugees returned to their former places of abode. Nevertheless, the spirit of the Church gained much fortitude, invincibility and immortality like the departed saints. In 1970, the great mentor, missioner, founder, patron of All Saints Church Amakwa Ven. Dr. BCE Nwosu, joined the Church triumphant. His son Dr. Sir Ben Nwosu, clip of the old block, took up the mantle of leadership of the Church and encouraged the work of building of the Church voluntary by donation; he contributed much.

SECOND PARISH STATUS
The present Parish status became visible in 1991 as Rev. Enoch Ekpehichi came to assist the superintendent at St. Matthew’s Parish Egbema Ozubulu. He was housed at the uncompleted Church vicarage at All Saints’ Church Amakwa. History provoked one more of thought of a Parish status. The following played vital roles in one way or another toward actualization of this dream; Mr. Alphonsus Ireoba (Now late retired Rev), Rev. G. Okoye and Rev A.C Ngaikedi in whose time (1996) the parish status was granted by His lordship Rt. Rev. G.I.N Okpala then Bishop of Nnewi Diocese. The Parish has come to stay and shall grow from strength to strength in Jesus name Amen.
The dedication of All Saints’ Amakwa Church building was performed by Rev. Dr. G.I. N Okpala, (JP), the then Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 2002, while the new vicarage was dedicated on the 12th of September 2012 by the same Bishop.
