GOVERNOR PETER MBAH OPENS UP ON DEFECTION TO APC: “THIS DECISION IS ABOUT SERVICE, NOT SELF”
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has spoken publicly about his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the decision was made to enhance service delivery and strengthen collaboration with the federal government.
Speaking at the APC Secretariat in Enugu, Mbah explained that the PDP had strayed from its founding ideals and was no longer responsive to the people’s needs.
He described his move as a carefully considered decision based on consultations with key political figures across the state.
“This is not a personal or selfish move,” the governor said.
“It is a decision anchored on principle and people-centered governance. We believe the APC offers a more responsive platform that aligns with our vision for a prosperous Enugu.”
Mbah noted that his political associates, including members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, and local government chairmen, also joined him in the defection.
“I am not walking this path alone. This is a collective choice by our political family — a united step towards progress,” he affirmed.
According to the governor, joining the APC will allow Enugu to build a stronger partnership with the federal government and ensure the state is better represented in national policymaking.
“The South-East has supported a particular political party for many years, yet our contributions have often gone unacknowledged,” Mbah stated.
“By aligning with the APC, we are seeking a fairer partnership — one where the voices of our people will be heard and respected.”
He further assured that all ongoing developmental projects, particularly in infrastructure, education, energy, and the digital economy, will continue without interruption.
“Our commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance remains firm. We are only repositioning to accelerate progress,” he emphasized.
Welcoming Mbah to the party, APC Enugu State chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Agballa, described the defection as a major milestone for both the state and the region.
“Governor Mbah’s decision reflects courage and leadership,” Agballa said.
“His entry into the APC will strengthen our structure in the South-East and promote greater unity among progressives.”
