ANAMBRA ADC GUBER CANDIDATE SWEARS TO SERVE ONLY ONE TERM
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, John Chuma Nwosu, has formally sworn an affidavit of commitment to serve only one term if elected governor in the forthcoming Anambra 2025 governorship election.
In the affidavit deposed at the Anambra State High Court, Awka, Nwosu pledged to complete just one four-year term in office in line with the state’s unwritten zoning agreement, which rotates the governorship among the three senatorial zones — Anambra North, Central, and South.
Nwosu, who hails from Nnewi in Anambra South Senatorial Zone, said his decision reflects his respect for the principles of equity, justice, and political balance in Anambra.
“I am offering myself to serve Anambra for only one term so that power can return to Anambra Central after the South completes its tenure. My commitment is not just a promise but a solemn pledge sworn before the law and the people,” he stated.
“Governance should be about service, not personal ambition. The people deserve leaders who keep their word,” he added.
The ADC candidate emphasized that his party, the African Democratic Congress, stands for integrity, youth inclusion, and accountable leadership — values he says will define his tenure if elected.
Nwosu’s bold pledge has drawn mixed reactions across Anambra’s political landscape. While some commend his stance as a mark of sincerity and fairness, others question the practicality and enforceability of such a commitment once in office.
The Anambra governorship election is scheduled for November 2025, with candidates from major parties, including the ruling APGA, PDP, APC, and ADC, intensifying campaigns across the 21 local government areas of the state.
