BULLETS AT A BURIAL: GUNMEN LEAVE OGIDI COMMUNITY DEVASTATED

What was meant to be a solemn day of farewell in Ogidi, Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, turned into a nightmare as unidentified gunmen stormed a burial ceremony in Ezi Village, unleashing a hail of bullets on mourners.

The attackers, suspected to be cultists, struck without warning. In the chaos, four lives were snuffed out on the spot, while about fifteen others were left writhing in pain with gunshot wounds

Survivors described the scene as a stampede of confusion—people scattering for safety, chairs overturned, and cries piercing through the sound of gunfire.

Security operatives have since cordoned off the area, while the wounded are receiving urgent medical care. The police have vowed to hunt down those responsible, though residents remain anxious over the surge of violence in the state.

Community leaders have condemned the attack, calling it a desecration of human dignity and culture, while urging government to intensify efforts to protect gatherings such as funerals, weddings, and markets which are increasingly becoming soft targets.
