FINNISH COURT SENTENCES SIMON EKPA TO SIX YEARS FOR TERRORISM
A Finnish court has jailed Nigerian separatist leader Simon Ekpa for six years after finding him guilty of terrorism-related offences, tax fraud, and professional misconduct.
The verdict, delivered on September 1, 2025, revealed that Ekpa used his online platforms between 2021 and 2024 to incite violence, fund armed groups, and supply weapons linked to separatist activities in Nigeria.
The court noted that his actions violated Finnish laws and contributed to insecurity in Nigeria’s Southeast. Ekpa, once a practicing lawyer in Finland, also lost professional privileges due to misconduct.
The ruling is seen as a rare but significant move, highlighting the global fight against cross-border terrorism and online extremism.
