FINLAND JAILS SIMON EKPA OVER TERRORISM OFFENCES
In a landmark ruling, a Finnish court has handed Nigerian separatist agitator Simon Ekpa a six-year prison sentence for crimes tied to terrorism, tax evasion, and misconduct as a lawyer.
The judgment, delivered on September 1, 2025, exposed how Ekpa leveraged social media between 2021 and 2024 to stir violence, fund militias, and supply weapons that fueled unrest in Nigeria’s Southeast.
Once a practicing lawyer in Finland, Ekpa was also stripped of legal privileges after the court found him guilty of breaching professional ethics.
The decision is being hailed as a bold step, signaling that extremism and cross-border terror financing won’t go unchecked, no matter where it originates.
