NYSC DG HAILS GOV. MBAH FOR 20,000 CORPS MEMBERS’ ALLOWANCE, CAMP RENOVATION IN ENUGU

In a move that has drawn praise from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has been lauded for placing corps members’ welfare at the forefront by approving a monthly allowance of ₦20,000 for those serving in the state.

The commendation came from the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, during a courtesy call at the Government House, Enugu, on Monday.

He arrived with top officials of the corps, describing the governor’s gesture—alongside the ongoing reconstruction of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Awgu—as a sign of genuine respect for the national scheme.

According to the DG, Enugu has distinguished itself as one of the most “conducive” states for corps members. So much so that many, after completing their service year, have opted not to return to their home states.

Figures provided by the DG showed that 11,116 Enugu indigenes are currently serving nationwide—comprising 4,219 males and 6,797 females—while 5,636 corps members are presently carrying out their national service within the state.

Nafiu also used the opportunity to remind corps members of their responsibility to honour the traditions and values of their host communities, noting that such respect would foster deeper cultural integration.

On discipline, the DG revealed that the service year of 131 corps members had been extended for various infractions, stressing that the NYSC remains a platform that instills character and discipline in young Nigerians.

He further appealed for greater public support to enable the scheme to keep delivering on its mandate.

Governor Mbah’s ₦20,000 monthly allowance boosts morale of corps members.

NYSC Awgu camp gets a facelift under state government support.

Enugu’s peaceful environment attracts corps members who settle after service.

131 erring corps members had their service extended for misconduct.
