“AN UNPLANNED HOME IS A TIME BOMB ” SAYS NONYE SOLUDO
The usually serene halls of Awka came alive on Monday as Mrs Nonye Soludo, First Lady of Anambra State and founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, took the stage at the opening of the 2025 August Meeting for Christian women — delivering a stirring charge that turned a cultural gathering into a movement for change.
To Mrs Soludo, family planning is not just about counting children; it is about counting the cost of the future. She described it as a “critical pillar” for building homes that are not only loving but capable of raising children who can thrive.
“An unplanned home is like planting seeds on rocky ground,” she said with conviction.
“When families stretch beyond their ability to provide, the cracks ripple out — classrooms overcrowd, hospitals strain, crime festers.
True family planning means building a tomorrow where every child is wanted, cherished, and given a fighting chance.”
The August Meeting — a tradition binding the women of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Anambra States — has always been a platform for dialogue. But this year, Mrs Soludo urged, it must become a launchpad for solutions.
She called on women to confront the moral drift in child upbringing, the poison of drug abuse among students, the silent tragedy of parental neglect, and the alluring trap of illicit wealth that has gripped many young people.
Her vision for the gathering was bold: a forum that promotes tolerance across tribes and faiths, strengthens communal peace, and equips women with the tools for ideological reawakening, social progress, and economic independence.
“We must reach out to the weary and the wavering,” she told them. “We must pour into the hearts of those losing faith and ignite a revival — not just in churches, but in homes, schools, and marketplaces.”
With her words, the governor’s wife shifted the tone of the August Meeting from a cultural reunion to a mobilization for moral, spiritual, and economic renaissance in the South-East.
And as the women dispersed into their breakout discussions, her voice still echoed a reminder that the change every community seeks can begin in the quiet resolve of women determined to rewrite the story of their land.
