GOV. SOLUDO STIRS CONVERSATION IN THE U.S., UNMASKS THE REAL FACE OF INSECURITY IN ANAMBRA
In a powerful moment of truth-telling that shook the room and sparked waves across digital platforms, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State held nothing back during a high-profile engagement with members of the Anambra State Association USA (ASA-USA)
In his impassioned address, he challenged popular narratives about the source of insecurity in the South-East, delivering a message many didn’t expect — but perhaps needed to hear.
UNFILTERED TRUTH: “THE ENEMY WITHIN”
With piercing honesty, Governor Soludo dismantled the widely accepted belief that Fulani herdsmen were behind the spate of kidnappings and violence plaguing Anambra.
“Let’s stop pointing fingers outside. The architects of most of these heinous crimes are not strangers; they are our own sons, Igbos born and bred,” he declared, drawing both gasps and applause.
The governor backed his claim with chilling data from security intelligence, revealing that a majority of suspects arrested in connection with criminal activities were of local origin.
He described the phenomenon as a tragic betrayal from within, stressing the need to call a spade a spade if real progress is to be made.
TURNING THE SPOTLIGHT INWARD
For years, the default reaction to security challenges in the South-East has been to blame external elements, especially herders and separatist-linked mercenaries.
But Soludo turned the lens inward. According to him, many of the armed groups operating in the shadows of Anambra’s forests are local youths disguised as freedom fighters, using ideology as a smokescreen for greed and chaos.
This blunt truth, he said, is not meant to shame but to catalyze collective responsibility and healing.
AN APPEAL TO THE DIASPORA: COME HOME, REBUILD
Governor Soludo didn’t stop at naming the problem — he extended a passionate olive branch to the diaspora. He urged Anambrarians abroad to:
Invest in their communities,
Support efforts to reclaim the moral compass of the youth, and
Be vigilant about inadvertently funding unrest through well-meaning but misguided donations.
“Anambra needs you — not just your money, but your voice, your heart, and your hands,” he said, reinforcing the idea that development is a collective assignment.
SOCIAL FALLOUT AND SUPPORT
The governor’s boldness has sparked nationwide debate. On social media, some lauded his courage to speak hard truths, calling it “a leadership masterclass.” Others labeled it politically risky and potentially divisive.
Yet, traditional leaders and intellectuals in the region have largely stood behind him, describing his statement as a refreshing dose of accountability.
