“WE ARE NOT CRIMINALS!” NIGERIANS IN CHINA STAGE IMAGE-RESCUE PROTEST
Fed up with being stereotyped due to the reckless behavior of a few, Nigerians living in Guangzhou, China, recently took to the streets—not with anger, but with placards and purpose.
Chanting “Respect our name” and “Not all of us fight,” the protesters condemned the recent rise in cult-related fights, fraud, and misconduct by some Nigerians abroad.
These incidents, often caught on camera, have painted the entire diaspora community with a brush of shame.
One community leader warned: “We’ve worked hard to build trust here. One person’s stupidity can ruin it for thousands.”
The protest was a heartfelt call for accountability among Nigerians overseas and a plea to the Nigerian government to step up consular engagement.
