NIGHT TERROR IN OKO: STUDENTS KILLED IN SURPRISE ATTACK NEAR FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC

What began as an ordinary evening in Oko, Anambra State, descended into horror when unknown assailants unleashed gunfire near the Federal Polytechnic, leaving two students lifeless and several others caught in the storm of violence.

The attack unfolded under the cover of darkness at approximately 8:40 p.m., near the bustling Total and Tipper junctions.

Witnesses recounted a terrifying scene: gunmen arriving swiftly—one group riding a motorcycle, the other in a sleek, unregistered black Lexus 350 SUV—and then opening fire without warning, targeting anyone in sight.

Students nearby were sent scrambling for safety as bullets tore through the night air. When silence returned, the damage was clear: two students had been fatally struck, while four others were left wounded, their lives hanging in the balance.

Confirming the tragic development, Anambra State Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that two of the injured—one of them a young woman—were receiving urgent treatment in the hospital.

“Tragically, two lives were lost, and preliminary reports suggest that two more individuals may have been forcibly taken,” Ikenga said. “Our investigation is being guided by solid leads and first-hand witness accounts.”

In response, security forces have swung into action. A heavily armed joint task force led by the Aguata Area Commander has been deployed to the scene.

The operation draws strength from a coalition of forces: military personnel, naval units, civil defence operatives, and local vigilantes, all working in unison to hunt down the perpetrators.
