UK-BASED WOMAN ACCUSES OGUN MONARCH OF FRAUD, SEEKS JUSTICE FROM STATE ASSEMBLY
In a petition dated Thursday and addressed to the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Daisi Elemide, a UK-based woman, Christy Oluwabunmi Oyewole, has accused a traditional ruler, Oba Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju, of deceiving her into a sham marriage and swindling her out of over ₦115 million.
Oyewole stated in her letter that her life savings were wiped out after falling victim to a series of fraudulent acts allegedly orchestrated by the monarch. The amount includes ₦65 million in cash, jewelry worth ₦50 million, and other personal items such as mobile phones.
“It is with deep sorrow that I write to the Ogun State House of Assembly about the distressing experience I endured at the hands of an Ogun monarch,” she wrote.
“Oba Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju has deceitfully taken everything I worked for.”
Oyewole, currently residing in the United Kingdom, recounted that the monarch approached her for marriage shortly after the breakdown of her previous marriage, which ended due to domestic abuse. She expressed initial hesitation, citing the fact that she was still legally married. However, she said Oba Adekeye assured her that he would facilitate her divorce process.
According to her, “It later became evident that both the divorce and marriage documents he provided were completely fake—carefully orchestrated to defraud me.”
She further alleged that once their marriage was formalized, the monarch continuously borrowed money, jewelry, and other valuables from her under the pretext of returning them, which he never did.
Despite repeated efforts to reclaim her property and funds, Oyewole said the monarch has taken advantage of his traditional position to avoid accountability.
“When I discovered I had been conned, I did everything within my power to recover my assets,” she wrote. “But he has continued to hide behind his royal title to escape justice.”
In her petition, Oyewole appealed to the House of Assembly for urgent intervention, expressing hope that the lawmakers could help her reclaim her financial stability and begin to rebuild her life.
“I feel completely stranded. I truly believe that with your support, I can regain control of my life. I’m counting on a favorable response from you,” she concluded.
In a separate interview published by **SaharaReporters** on February 24, 2025, Oyewole further claimed that the monarch used the guise of marriage as a tool for manipulation and financial exploitation. She revealed that Oba Olanrewaju had even gone as far as forging divorce papers to dissolve her previous marriage and arranged a fraudulent marriage ceremony with her at a court registry.
She told SaharaReporters, “Kabiyesi fabricated a divorce certificate to help me leave my husband and took me to the registry for a supposed marriage. I later found out that this is a pattern for him. In fact, I discovered that no fewer than five women have previously fallen victim to his deception. He deliberately targets wealthy women like myself.”
