HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST AISHA YESUFU SLAMS PETER OBI OVER OCCUPY NIGERIA COMMENTS
.
Aisha Yesufu, a prominent human rights advocate and Peter Obi supporter, has rebuked him for disparaging the Occupy Nigeria protests against Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. Yesufu responded to Obi’s comments, made during a memorial lecture for Pa Edwin Clark, where he questioned the whereabouts of those who protested against Jonathan’s government over fuel price hikes from ₦87 to ₦120 per litre.
.
Obi had remarked, “Where are those who vigorously protested during President Jonathan’s time when prices were relatively moderate?” Yesufu countered, “There’s never a wrong time to protest.
.
People protest daily, even in thriving countries.” She added that Obi should drop the notion that citizens won’t protest if he becomes president, no matter how effective he is.
.
Yesufu emphasized that protesters in 2012 were reacting to the ₦120 price, not anticipating the ₦900 price tag of today.
.
“Nobody protests for the future,” she argued, highlighting the importance of addressing present grievances.
