US COURT ORDERS FBI, DEA TO RELEASE TINUBU’S RECORDS
.
A US District Court in Washington, D.C. has ruled that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) must release confidential records related to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s alleged involvement in a 1992 drug trafficking case.
.
The court’s decision comes after a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was filed by Aaron Greenspan, seeking the release of records pertaining to Tinubu’s alleged connection to a heroin trafficking ring in the 1990s.
.
The FBI and DEA had previously refused to confirm or deny the existence of such records, but Judge Beryl Howell rejected their use of a “Glomar response,” stating that it was “neither logical nor plausible” given the public’s right to access the information.
.
The agencies are now required to revoke their Glomar responses and release the requested materials. A joint report from the FBI and DEA is due by May 2, 2025, to resolve any outstanding matters in the case.
.
This development has significant implications for President Tinubu, who has been a key figure in Nigerian politics for several decades. The release of these records could potentially shed more light on the allegations surrounding his past and raise questions about his leadership.
