SEPARATIST LEADER NNAMDI KANU FACES NEW TRIAL
.
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has pleaded not guilty to seven counts of terrorism and treason in a Nigerian court.
.
This trial, overseen by Judge James Omotosho, is Kanu’s fourth, with proceedings scheduled for late April and early May. Kanu, a British citizen, was initially arrested in 2015 but fled Nigeria in 2017 while on bail.
.
He was re-arrested in Kenya in 2021. The IPOB advocates for the secession of southeastern Nigeria, predominantly inhabited by the Igbo ethnic group, a movement that previously led to a civil war with over a million casualties.
