WOMAN DECLARED DEAD WINS FRAUD CASE AFTER TESTIFYING TO HIGH COURT
.
June Ashimola, a woman presumed dead for six years, won a High Court case after appearing via video from Nigeria to confirm her existence. Ashimola had left the UK for Nigeria in 2018 and was falsely declared dead in 2019 through a fraudulent death certificate to seize her £350,000 estate in London.
.
The power of attorney over her estate had been improperly given to associates of Tony Ashikodi, a convicted fraudster, and Ruth Samuel who falsely claimed Ashimola’s marriage to Bakare Lasisi. Judge John Linwood ruled in favor of Ashimola, confirming that the marriage certificate and death certificate were forgeries and revoked the power of attorney granted based on these false documents.
.
The case, labeled as an “unusual probate claim” by the judge, involved lengthy litigation with legal costs that could surpass the value of Ashimola’s property.
