CONTENT MODERATORS MOURN NIGERIAN COLLEAGUE IN KENYA

.

Kenyan technology workers recently held a vigil for Ladi Anzaki Olubunmi, a Nigerian content moderator for TikTok employed by Teleperformance Kenya, who died under unclear circumstances after being unable to return to Nigeria for two years.

.

Her decomposing body was found in her house, and colleagues mentioned she had complained of fatigue and a desire to go home. Despite accusations from colleagues, Teleperformance Kenya denied claims that Olubunmi was denied leave in a statement.

.

Content moderators in Kenya, including more than 100 former Facebook moderators, have previously complained of poor working conditions, low pay, lack of mental health support, long hours, and intimidation.

.

Fellow workers at the vigil suggested that these conditions may have contributed to Olubunmi’s death. Olubunmi’s family, unable to afford repatriation of her body, is considering a local burial facilitated by her church in Nairobi.
