RAMADAN CRACKDOWN: HISBAH BOARD ARRESTS VIOLATORS
.
Islamic law enforcement is in full swing in Kano State, Nigeria, as the Hisbah Board cracks down on individuals violating Islamic laws during Ramadan. The Board’s operatives have been busy arresting people for various offenses, including not fasting on the first day of Ramadan.
HAIR RAISING ARRESTS
.
In a bizarre twist, around 60 individuals were arrested for sporting “indecent haircuts”. The Hisbah Board considers certain hairstyles to be against Islamic law and local cultural norms. It seems that in Kano State, you can’t just wear your hair any way you please!
.
MIXED RIDES ARE A NO-NO
Commercial tricycle riders were also arrested for mixing male and female passengers in their vehicles. The Hisbah Board has deemed this practice prohibited, and riders must now ensure that they separate their passengers by gender.
.
A PATTERN OF ENFORCEMENT
This isn’t the first time the Hisbah Board has taken action against Ramadan violators. In March 2024, they arrested 11 Muslims for eating during the Ramadan fast. The individuals were released after swearing an oath not to intentionally skip fasting again.
The Hisbah Board is serious about enforcing Islamic laws and morals in Kano State. Will this crackdown on violators have the desired effect, or will it spark controversy and debate? Only time will tell.
