MERCY CHINWO AND EX-MANAGER’S SAGA
.
A Federal High Court in Lagos has refused to lift the arrest warrant issued against Ezekiel Onyedikachi, the former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. Onyedikachi is accused of embezzling a whopping $345,000 in royalties meant for Mercy Chinwo.
.
THE COURT SAYS “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”
Justice Alexander Owoeye expressed frustration with Onyedikachi’s repeated absence from court, despite his lawyer’s claims that he was involved in a terrible accident. The prosecutor, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), described Onyedikachi’s behavior as “a show of shame and outright disrespect” for the court.
.
A GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE
The court has been playing a game of cat and mouse with Onyedikachi, who has been dodging court appearances. The prosecutor urged the court to issue a bench warrant to compel Onyedikachi’s attendance, stressing that it was necessary to uphold the integrity of the court.
.
THE ARREST WARRANT STANDS
In a brief ruling, the court noted that the earlier arrest warrant was still valid, as it had not been withdrawn. This means that Onyedikachi can be arrested and brought before the court at any time.
