WOMAN GRANTED ASYLUM IN UK DUE TO INVOLVEMENT WITH IPOB

A 49-year-old Nigerian woman has been granted asylum in the UK after joining the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group designated as a terrorist organization by Nigeria.

.

Initially arriving in the UK in 2011, her asylum appeals were previously rejected. From 2016, she began attending IPOB meetings and protests, arguing that her association with the separatist group put her at risk of arrest upon return to Nigeria.

.

Despite findings that her involvement was aimed at securing asylum, it was determined that her activities made her identifiable to Nigerian authorities. Judge Gemma Loughran ruled there was a reasonable likelihood she would face persecution upon return, thus granting her asylum.
