SOWORE’S DETENTION: TIB MOVEMENT CONDEMNS POLICE ACTION
.
A blazing demonstration erupted in Lagos as the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement converged on Oba Akinjobi Way, near the Lagos Command in Ikeja, to demand the instantaneous liberation of its convener, Omoyele Sowore. The protesters, spearheaded by National Coordinator Sanyaolu Juwon, vowed to maintain their vigil until Sowore is released from captivity.
.
A PLEA FOR POLICE TRANSPARENCY
Addressing the multitude, Juwon implored the police to respect the inherent rights of protesters and refrain from unleashing brutality or deploying mercenaries to disrupt the peaceful congregation. “We are here to convey an unequivocal message: the unjust incarceration of Omoyele Sowore must cease. We will persist in our demands until justice is upheld,” Juwon proclaimed.
.
CASTIGATING POLICE OVERREACH
Juwon also excoriated the recent remarks made by Nigerian police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who allegedly vindicated police incursions into private residences without warrants. Juwon described the statement as “reckless” and called for an immediate cessation of such actions, which flagrantly infringe upon citizens’ rights.
.
ADVOCATING FOR SWEEPING REFORMS
The TIB Movement also denounced the pervasive extortion perpetrated by police officers and demanded comprehensive reforms in law enforcement practices across the nation. Juwon emphasized that the movement holds the Commissioner of Police and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu accountable for any potential assaults on protesters, stressing that the right to peaceful assembly is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.
