IBADAN CHILDREN’S FUN-FAIR TURNS DEADLY

A children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, ended in tragedy as a stampede resulted in the loss of many young lives. The event, organized by Women in Need of Governance and Support (WINGS), was meant to be a day of joy and celebration for the children, but it turned into a day of mourning for the families of the victims.

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS OF THE STAMPEDE

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and panic-stricken as a large crowd of children and parents rushed to the entrance gate, causing a violent push that led to the tragic incident. Many children, mostly underage, fell and were trampled by others trying to gain entrance to the venue.

OYO STATE GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO THE TRAGEDY

The Oyo State government has mourned the loss of lives and swiftly mobilized a rapid response team to provide medical attention to the victims. Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, stated that the state government will do everything in its power to support the victims and their families.

As the state government investigates the incident, it is clear that measures need to be put in place to prevent such tragedies in the future. The government has urged event organizers to ensure proper planning and coordination to avoid such incidents.
