OMOYELE SOWORE FREED AFTER A BRIEF DETENTION BY THE DSS, UPON RETURN TO NIGERIA.
Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, was briefly detained shortly after his arrival in Nigeria. According to earlier reports from PUNCH Online, Sowore was apprehended early Sunday at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos.
He on social media, “Upon landing at MMIA from the USA, Nigerian Immigration seized my passport and informed me they had orders for my detention. This move was anticipated as it aligns with the broader crackdown by the authoritarian @officialAbat regime against dissent and their anxiety about the forthcoming #FearlessINOctober protest.
“If this detention turns out to be extended, I call on all citizens to resist tyranny by any means necessary, participating in the planned direct actions starting on October 1 and continuing thereafter.”
