THE NIGERIAN STUDENTS UNION HAS ANNOUNCED A NATIONWIDE PROTEST OVER FUEL PRICE HIKE.

In response to the recent surge in fuel prices and perceived mismanagement by NNPC Director General Mele Kyari, the students’ union is spearheading a protest. Their demands are clear: an immediate reversal of the fuel price increase and the removal of Kyari from his position.

On September 15, 2024, students across Nigeria will stage a coordinated occupation of all major cities. They promise a peaceful and orderly demonstration, provided their demands are not met.

The letter for the protest states: “We are notifying you of a planned, extensive shutdown of major Nigerian cities starting September 15, 2024, as a direct response to the recent fuel price hike and the alleged incompetence of NNPC’s Director General, Mele Kyari.

“The persistent rise in fuel prices has inflicted severe hardship on the populace. We refuse to remain passive while our future is compromised by the decisions of a few individuals. We are demanding an immediate rollback of the price increase and Kyari’s removal from his post.

“Students nationwide are called upon to join this movement. On September 15, we will unite in every major city to advocate for better conditions for both students and the general public. Our protest will be peaceful and lawful, but we insist on being heard.

“We urge authorities to prepare for this event and ensure public order is maintained throughout the demonstration.”
