IGP RECEIVES THE VENUES OF THE PROTEST FROM THE ORGANISERS

On the request of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the protest organisers have released the schedule for the August 1–10, 2024, hardship protest in Nigeria.

The scheduled protests’ sites and dates were specified in a letter written by attorney Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, to the organisers and addressed to the IGP.

In the meantime, the Adegboruwa requested that the IGP send over the contact information for the police officers assigned to cover the protest in question.

We represent the TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT as its solicitors. Please refer to our July 26, 2024 letter on the subject and your July 29, 2024 response (Ref. CJ:2400/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.1/10), which we have forwarded to our client with instructions to reply as follows.

“Our client recognises the Inspector-General of Police’s dedication to abiding by current laws that grant citizens the freedom to organise public gatherings, protests, and processions, as well as the lawful fulfilment of the police’s duties to provide sufficient security and coverage at the locations.

In order to guarantee a calm and incident-free excursion, we would be happy to acquire the contact information for the Commissioners of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and Deputy Inspectors-General of Police assigned to cover the aforementioned public meetings, rallies, and processions.
