THE A YEAR AND SIX MONTHS OLD AGBARA,OGUN STATE FIRE SERVICE STATION HAS STAYED LOCKED DUE TO LACK OF EQUIPMENT.
On November 10, 2023, a few months earlier, a different fire outbreak might have destroyed another family’s belongings at Katsina Close, Agbara Estate.
Over the past year, there have been numerous fire incidents in the Agbara and Igbesa parts of the state at homes, places of worship, and even businesses.
One of the four fire service stations the state government constructed, the facility was put into service on February 1, 2023, and is located in Agbara, Ifo, Mowe, and Ibafo.
Governor Abiodun declared during the inauguration event that the station was a component of his “people-oriented projects” in the Ado-Odo Otta Local Government Area.
He said that because of Agbara and Ifo’s “population and location as one of the border communities to Lagos,” the facility was especially necessary in those areas.
Sixteen months after it was put into service, the fire station building is still locked and covered in dust despite being painted in the state’s official colours of yellow and green. Its outside has been overtaken by weeds.
Speaking with this writer, two representatives of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) attested to the fact that the facility has not been in use since its opening in February 2023.
