LOOKING AT THE HUGE AMOUNT OF STOLEN MONEY IN NIGERIA, I WONDER HOW NIGERIANS SURVIVE -EFCC CHAIRMAN
Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, stated on Tuesday that he often questions how the nation is still in existence when he looks through case files and sees the amount taken.
This was said by the chairman of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, at a meeting with the executive team of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), which is chaired by Mohammed Shehu.
Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, stated on Tuesday that he often questions how the nation is still in existence when he looks through case files and sees the amount taken.
The chairman said as much in a statement released by EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, after a meeting with the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation management team.
“I marvel how we are still surviving when I look at some case files and see the enormous amount of money taken. You will cry if you see some case files.
“You will wonder what kind of spirit drives us as Nigerians, the way they move unspent budget allocation to private accounts in commercial banks before midnight at the end of a budget circle,” Olukoyede remarked.
He added that the removal of public corruption from the political system will benefit Nigeria more than many other nations, citing it as the primary cause of corruption in the nation.
“It is unacceptable to call someone to account for years of holding a public office or a position of trust and have them respond that they would not account for it,” the speaker stated.
He emphasised that for the best possible development of the nation, accountability and transparency should be ingrained in both the public and private sectors.
