USA REASSURES IT’S COMMITMENT TO NIGERIA

On Monday, Will Stevens, the Consul General of the United States in Lagos, reaffirmed that his nation is dedicated to forging a mutually beneficial alliance and enhancing its bilateral ties with Nigeria. Stevens stated this in his speech at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos’ celebration of America’s 248th Independence Day.

He stated that Nigeria and the United States, the two biggest presidential democracies globally, have very similar histories and core principles, making them strong role models for the rest of the globe.

“On this day, friends and family come together to commemorate the founding of the United States of America, to think back on our past, present, and future, and to reinforce the values that have brought us this far,” he stated.

He claims that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people is something that both Nigeria and the United States are committed to.

We acknowledge that democracy is a journey rather than a destination, one in which citizens and elected officials collaborate to meet everyone’s needs and make sacrifices, concessions, and joint efforts to improve the state of affairs.

Because of this, Nigeria and the United States are logical allies, friends, and collaborators on a wide range of crucial issues affecting both the continent and the globe.

Stevens stated that the US government’s remarkable attention to Nigeria since the beginning of 2024 reflects the depth and importance of both countries’ partnerships.

He lauded the Nigerian diaspora, stating that the over 700,000 Nigerian Americans were the most successful diaspora community in the United States.
