SENATE DENIES APPROVING THE NEW PRESIDENTIAL JETS

Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, declared on Tuesday that the Senate had not given its approval for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to acquire new presidential jets.

The purported study follows the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence’s suggestion that the President and Vice-President purchase new aircraft because their current planes are unsafe to use and have malfunctions.

President Tinubu used a private plane to South Africa last week to attend President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration.

In response to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s criticism of the plan as inappropriate and disrespectful, the Presidency defended the necessity of purchasing new presidential aircraft.

However, the Presidency quickly responded, calling Obi’s remark inappropriate and questioning whether he would rather that the President’s
life be in danger by operating a malfunctioning aircraft.

Does Obi want Tinubu to carry on travelling in a dilapidated jet and pass away like the president of Iran and the vice president of Malawi? Allow him to explain.

Any rational government would take this fundamental action. The President’s welfare cannot be played with,” stated presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
