‘N5.7bn Misrepresentation’: Access bank staff member affirms against father, child in Lagos.
The Monetary and Monetary Wrongdoings Commission, EFCC, on Monday, May 20, 2024, introduced the primary arraignment witness, PW1, Chibueze Chukwuma, a representative of Access Bank Plc, in the preliminary of Emmanuel Jayeoba and his child, Adewale Jayeoba, before Equity Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Government High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Jayeoba, his child, close by their firm, Ridges Realm Capital Restricted, are being investigated on a changed 14-count charge verging on supposed N5.7billion tax evasion extortion.
They were at first summoned on August 2, 2022, by the Lagos Zonal Order of the EFCC before Equity Nicholas Oweibo, yet were later on October 12, 2022 re-summoned on the altered charges before Equity Aneke.
One of the counts peruses, “That you, Adewale Daniel Jayeoba and Emmanuel Adewunmi Jayeoba, somewhere in the range of 2019 and 2020, in Lagos, inside the locale of this respectable court, planned among yourselves to utilize the total amount of N5,697,029,685.00, which aggregate you sensibly should have realized frames part of your unlawful action, indeed: continuing financial business without a legitimate permit, subsequently committing an offense as opposed to Segment 18 (a) of the Tax evasion (Disallowance) (Revision) Act, 2012 and culpable under Area 15(3) of a similar Demonstration.”
They argued “not blameworthy” to the charges when they were perused to them.
At the continued sitting on Monday, Chukwuma, who was driven in proof by the arraigning counsel, C.C. Okezie, let the court know that he was the group captain of the administrative enquiries division, and guaranteed that the bank answered enquiries from policing and different controllers.
He further portrayed the pretended over the examination of the supposed misrepresentation, including the correspondences between the EFCC and the bank.
“In February 2021, the bank got a letter from the EFCC mentioning for account opening records and proclamation of record of Grains Realm Capital and Daniel Adewale, and we answered the solicitation by sending the mentioned reports for the period expected by the EFCC, and joined the Declaration of ID,” he said.
From that point, the arraignment tried to delicate in proof the said correspondence.
There was no protest raised by the guard counsel, Olaniyi George. The said reports were in this manner conceded by Equity Aneke as shows against them.
The case has been concluded till October 23, 2024 for continuation of preliminary.
