I, Venerable Ogbonna Azubuike Obiefuna, was born in 1968 at the Immaculate Heart Maternity, Okwuana Abubor Nnewichi Nnewi, to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest and Virginia Obi of Akabo Obiofia, Nnewichi Nnewi. My early childhood was spent in the city of Aba, where my family relocated in 1971. It was there I received my foundational education, attending Asa Road Primary School and later Eziama High School.
.
In pursuit of higher education, I gained admission into the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, where I graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Technology. My university years were marked by a deep involvement in campus evangelism, culminating in my election as President of the Student Christian Movement (SCM) in 1989. Following graduation, I served as Travelling Secretary of the SCM of Nigeria during my National Youth Service (NYSC) in Bauchi State in 1991/1992.
.
Answering the call to ordained ministry, I enrolled at Trinity Theological College, Umuahia, and completed my theological training in April 1998. In June 1998, I was ordained a Deacon in the Diocese of Aba, and in June 1999, I was priested by the Rt. Rev. Prof. Augustine Iwuagwu. My ministry steadily grew, and in 2002, I was preferred and installed as a Canon of St. Michael’s and All Angels Cathedral, Diocese of Aba, by the same bishop.
.
With the creation of the Diocese of Isiala Ngwa in 2007, I became part of the new Diocese under the episcopacy of Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Azubuike, who preferred me Archdeacon that same year. During my time in the Diocese of Isiala Ngwa, I served as priest in charge of various churches and headed two archdeaconries.
.
My academic journey continued with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and a Master of Divinity, which I earned from National Teachers Institute/Uthman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and Crowther Graduate Theological Seminary, Abeokuta, respectively. Alongside ministry, I also had a fruitful career in education, teaching at institutions such as St. Augustine’s Anglican Seminary, Nbawsi, Abia State, and Fountain Mission International School, Williamsville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. I served as Rector at St. Augustine’s Seminary and was privileged to be the pioneer Rector of Fountain Mission International School.
.
In 2011, I moved to the Diocese of Kubwa, Abuja, where I faithfully served for twelve years, leading numerous churches and archdeaconries. In September 2023, I was honorably released to my home Diocese of Nnewi by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Duke Akamisoko, Bishop of Kubwa, at my personal request.
.
Presently, I serve as the Priest-in-Charge of Rock of Salvation Anglican Church, Ndimgbu Otolo, Nnewi, under the episcopal leadership of the Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, Bishop of the Diocese of Nnewi.
.
To the glory of God, my life has been one of service—to the church, to education, and to the spiritual growth of those entrusted to my care.
