BIOGRAPHY OF VEN. PROF OBIORA CYRIL NWOSU-APOSTOLIC PRIEST.
Ven Prof Obiora Cyril Nwosu hails from Ezinifite, Aguata, Anambra State, Nigeria. He is the first son of late Hon. Ichie Samuel Chukwuma Okoye Nwosu and Lolo Cecilia Nwakaego Nwosu-Maduka. He had his primary school education in the 1960s at Ogbugbaogu Central School, Ezinifite, Central School, Ekwulobia and St Augustine’s Central School, Umunze. His father was a Civil Servant, Health Officer-Sanitary Overseer, and he was following him to all the places he was transferred to work. He went to All Saints Secondary School, Umunze and Anglican Grammar School, Oraukwu, in the early 1970s. He encountered Christ in 1971 at Oraukwu Grammar School as a youth. He got his Teachers Grade 2 Certificate in 1977 from Saint Paul’s Teachers Training College, Awka. He obtained a B.Sc in Education Biology in 1981 from University of Ife(now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. He got his Master’s Degree and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Library and Information Science at the University of Ibadan in 1985 and 1991 respectively. He holds a Diploma Certificate in Archives and Records Management from the National Archives, Nigeria in 1990. In 2002 he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. In 2007 he obtained a Diploma in Theology from Saint Paul’s College, Awka. He was ordained Deacon and Priested as an Anglican Church Priest in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
He worked briefly at the Palm Kernel Oil Mill, Umunze in 1975 after his secondary school education before going to teach at Saint James Central School, Uga, in 1976 as an Auxiliary Teacher. After his NYSC, he taught Biology and Mathematics at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Nawfia from 1982 to 1984 before for his Master’s Degree Programme at the University of Ibadan in the 1984/1985 Academic Year. After his Master’s Degree he got a job as a Librarian at the then Anambra State Polytechnic Oko in 1985. He was at the Polytechnic, now Federal Polytechnic Oko, for 22 years. He held many positions as a Librarian and Lecturer. He rose to the rank of Senior Librarian before going into full lecturing job. He rose to the highest rank of a Chief Lecturer. He was one time Head of the Department of Library and Information Science and the Dean/Director of the School of Information Technology of the Polytechnic. He was redeployed to the library and he later became the Polytechnic Librarian from 1998 to 2006. He joined Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka by their invitation to help the Department of Library and Information Science secure the National University Commission’s Accreditation. That he did with wealth of knowledge in 2007, and the Department got Accreditation for the first time under him as the Head of Department. After 7 years as Head of Department, he had a National appointment as the Pioneer Academy Librarian, Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano in 2013. In 2015 he came back to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka as the University Librarian. He served out his tenure in 2019. He was invited at the Paul University Awka to serve as the University Librarian, without knowing what God has in stock for him. He was doing the University Librarian’s job free of charge. When the Acting Vice Chancellor resigned he was called upon to take up the mantle as the Acting Vice Chancellor Paul University Awka in 2021. He took a Leave from Nnamdi Azikiwe University to take up the Macedonian call, which he saw as a Divine Mandate. He is rewriting the narrative of the University. He brought the Law, Education, Health Information Management, Postgraduate Programmes and got the NUC Re-Accreditation for the old Academic Programmes.
He was the Pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian Library Association, Anambra State Chapter from 1992 to 2002. He was the Vice President of the Society of the Nigerian Archivists from 1986 to 2001. He is a Chartered Librarian of Nigeria (CLN). He is an Archdeacon of the Anglican Church. He is married with children and grandchildren. He retired from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka on the 27th January, 2023 in sound health and with clean slate to the glory of God alone.
