The School of Languages is committed to promoting excellence in the study, research, and application of local and international languages. It comprises of three major departments: the English Department, the French Department, and the Department of Linguistics, Igbo, and Other Nigerian Languages.
Each department is equipped with academic and administrative facilities to support teaching, learning, and research.
English Department
The English Department offers in-depth academic training in English language, literature, and communication. It prepares students to become proficient in the English language for professional, academic, and global communication needs.
Facilities:
Departmental Library:A resource-rich space with books, journals, and academic materials related to English language and literature.
Admin Office: Manages departmental records, correspondence, and other administrative functions.
General Office:Handles student inquiries, departmental schedules, and coordination between faculty and students.
Classrooms 1 & 2:Well-equipped learning spaces for lectures, tutorials, and presentations.
French Department
The French Department focuses on equipping students with French language skills and cultural understanding, enabling them to communicate effectively in French-speaking environments.
Facilities:
French Classrooms 1 & 2:Designed for French language instruction using audio-visual and interactive teaching methods.
Language Lab:A modern facility for practicing listening, speaking, and comprehension using language software and recorded materials.
HOD Office:The office of the Head of Department, who oversees academic and administrative operations.
General Office:Assists students and staff with academic records, documentation, and course information.
French Resources Center:A dedicated space offering French magazines, dictionaries, textbooks, and cultural materials.
French Library:Houses extensive French literary works, academic journals, and multimedia learning aids.
Department of Linguistics, Igbo and Other Nigerian Languages.
This department is dedicated to the study and preservation of indigenous Nigerian languages, with a particular focus on the Igbo language. It trains students in linguistics, translation, interpretation, and the cultural context of Nigerian languages.
Facilities:
General Office:Provides administrative support and student services for the department.
Department of Igbo and Other Nigerian Languages:Focuses on teaching the Igbo language and other local languages, encouraging linguistic diversity and cultural pride.
Dean’s Office:The central office of the Dean of the School of Languages, responsible for overall academic leadership and administration.
Classroom 1:A learning space designed for lectures, discussions, and cultural studies related to Nigerian languages.

Department of French Language
