Manifesto for the Office of SUG President
Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe

(In Affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka)

By: Okoye, Harrison Chidiebere
Computer Science and Robotics Department

Fellow Students, Esteemed Management, and Staff,

I, Okoye Harrison Chidiebere, humbly present myself as a candidate for the office of the Student Union Government (SUG) President at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. Driven by a passion for service and a vision for progress, I am committed to building a vibrant, inclusive, and thriving student community that excels academically, socially, and in partnership with the institution’s management. This manifesto outlines my agenda to address your needs, elevate NOCEN’s reputation, and foster a harmonious relationship with the administration.

My Agenda

1. Protecting Students’ Interests On and Off Campus
If elected as the SUG President, my foremost priority is to safeguard the rights, voices, and interests of every student, both within NOCEN and beyond its walls. This commitment ensures a safe, fair, and supportive environment for all. I will:

★ Amplify Your Voice: Establish regular meetings, suggestion boxes, and digital feedback platforms to address concerns such as academic challenges, hostel conditions, and campus safety.
★ Advocate Externally: Represent NOCEN students in engagements with educational bodies and external programs, ensuring respect and opportunities during teaching practice by creating a good relationship with the stipulated schools for both Degree and NCE programs.
★ Promote Equity: Ensure that every student, regardless of department, gender, or background, has equal access to academic resources, extracurricular activities, and leadership opportunities.

With me, Okoye Harrison Chidiebere, as your advocate, your interests will not only be heard but actively championed.

2. Collaborating with Management to Achieve Institutional Goals
A strong partnership between the SUG and the management is vital for NOCEN’s growth. I pledge to work closely with the administration to achieve its objectives, including academic excellence and institutional progress. I will focus on:

★ Academic Excellence: Channel student feedback to the management to enhance curriculum delivery and teaching quality.
★ Discipline and Harmony: Promote a disciplined student body, reducing conflicts and fostering mutual respect.
★ Institutional Growth: Strengthen NOCEN’s reputation to attract more students and resources, ensuring long-term sustainability.

I will establish an SUG-Management Committee to hold regular consultations, ensuring that student perspectives contribute to achieving these goals.

3. Creating a Media Team to Boost NOCEN’s Visibility and Attract Students
The declining student population at NOCEN is a challenge that demands innovative solutions. I propose forming a Media Team, under the supervision of the SUG and management, to promote NOCEN’s strengths and attract prospective students. This team will:

★ Engage JAMB and WAEC Candidates: Visit JAMB and WAEC centres to highlight NOCEN’s quality programs, affordable fees, and affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
★ Leverage Digital Media: Utilize social media, videos, and blogs to showcase graduate success stories, vibrant campus life, and modern facilities.
★ Organize Outreach Campaigns: Conduct career talks and workshops in secondary schools to position NOCEN as the top choice for teacher education.

By enhancing NOCEN’s visibility, we can reverse the enrollment decline and restore its status as a leading institution.

4. Prioritizing Students’ Welfare
The welfare of students is the heartbeat of my vision. A well-supported student is empowered to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to the community. My plans include:

★ Improved Hostel Conditions: Advocate for renovations, reliable electricity, and clean water in hostels to ensure comfortable living spaces.
★ Health and Safety: Partner with the college clinic to provide affordable healthcare and organize health awareness campaigns on campus.
★ Recreational Opportunities: Promote mental well-being through inter-departmental sports, cultural events, and talent showcases.

5. Enhancing the Social Life of Students
A vibrant social life is essential for fostering unity, creativity, and a sense of belonging among students. I am committed to transforming NOCEN into a lively community where students can connect, celebrate, and grow. My plans include:

★ Regular Social Events: Organize events such as a full Freshers’ Week (not just a Freshers’ night), cultural days, music concerts, and comedy nights to bring students together and create lasting memories.
★ Clubs and Societies: Support the formation and funding of student-led clubs (e.g., drama, music, debate, and entrepreneurship) to encourage talent development and social interaction.
★ Campus Hangout Spaces: Work with the management to create or improve recreational spaces, such as student lounges or relaxation hubs (like the former Love Garden), where students can unwind and bond.

By enriching the social life on campus, I aim to make NOCEN a place where students thrive both academically and socially.

6. Promoting Academic Support and Skill Development
To prepare students for a competitive world, I will introduce initiatives to boost academic performance and equip them with practical skills. This includes:

★ Study Support Programs: Organize tutorials, study groups, and mentorship sessions to help students excel in their courses and teaching practice.
★ Skill Acquisition Workshops: Partner with the management and external organizations to provide training in ICT, entrepreneurship, and modern teaching techniques.
★ Career Guidance: Establish an SUG career counseling unit to guide students on job opportunities, further studies, and professional development.

These efforts will empower NOCEN students to become confident, skilled, and competitive graduates.

Fellow students, with your support, I, Okoye Harrison Chidiebere, pledge to lead with integrity, dedication, and a passion for service. Together, we can protect your interests, collaborate with the management, boost NOCEN’s visibility, prioritize your welfare, enrich campus social life, and enhance academic and skill development.

Let us unite to make Nwafor Orizu College of Education a beacon of academic excellence, social vibrancy, and student empowerment.
