In a bold and transformative step toward institutional digitization, the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN) made history today, Tuesday, August 5, 2025, by conducting its first-ever fully digital Students’ Union Government (SUG) election. The groundbreaking exercise, which saw online campaigns, real-time virtual voting, and transparent collation, signals a new era of smart governance and youth participation in digital democracy.

This watershed moment is the latest in a series of bold reforms under the visionary leadership of Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, Provost of the College, whose administration has consistently championed innovation and transparency in line with His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s progressive mandate of “Everything Technology; Technology Everywhere.”

A SEAMLESS ONLINE ELECTIONEERING PROCESS

The build-up to the election featured dynamic online campaigns, where candidates engaged the student body via moderated virtual debates, e-posters, and social media interactions—ensuring accessibility, inclusiveness, and issue-based discussions. No room for physical disruption or electoral malpractice—every vote counted digitally.

From the moment polls opened via the College’s secure e-voting platform, students across various departments logged in to cast their votes in real time using their mobile phones and devices. The process was not only seamless but also saw an unprecedented level of participation, with record-high voter turnout.

INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT AND OVERSIGHT

Ensuring credibility and security, the election was closely monitored by representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), and other observers who were physically present to witness the historic process.
