WRITTEN BY CHIBUZOR OBIDIKE The Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, in collaboration with market associations in Awka metropolis have embarked on a public awareness campaign against indiscriminate dumping of refuse along the roads. The Agency said the practice defaces the aesthetic of the state. The road walk campaign which touches all the strategic streets and markets started from Link Road Amaenyi to Nkwor Amaenyi through Zik Avenue, down to Eke Awka and rounded off at Amawbia. ASWAMA staff and officials of the Ministry of Environment, as well as state security agencies, shared flyers, and enlightened the citizenry on the best practices in refuse disposal. Addressing Journalists at Eke Awka Round- about, the Managing Director of ASWAMA, Mr Amaechi Akorah, frowned at the persisting improper disposal of refuse at unauthorized places, adding that the campaign seeks to address the ills and made clear that penalty awaits defaulters. Contributing, the Public Relations Officer of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Mr. Agbafuna Anthony, assured that they will be stationed round the facilities to ensure full compliance to the directive.
